Pares which literally means pair is an original Filipino dish. It is a combination of beef stew with garlic rice pared with a bowl of soup. The stew is cooked in soy sauce, anise and topped with spring onions. Again, this delicious Filipino dish can be eaten during breakfast, lunch or dinner.
And if you want the best pares in town, visit Pares Retiro. They have a branch at 344 Visayas Ave corner Congressional Ave, Quezon City which is open 24/7. Besides pares, they also offer lugaw, mami, soup, pancit, sizzling sisig and more.
When this branch opened a couple of years ago, my family, friends and I would frequent the place mainly because they offer good food at an affordable price. The staff and the place which is a typical pares eatery was also nice. The set up was really straight forward which we love. But as the years passed, the experience and ambience dropped.
The staff was slow and the guard wasn't much of an assistant either. The place was a mess making it difficult to enjoy the food. So, we simply stopped visiting until we passed by the area and saw that they were under renovation.
When they reopened, we did not visit them right away because I wanted to wait and see the reception. But a month ago, we decided to give them a visit.
Pares Retiro's newly-renovated branch in Visayas Avenue is now air-conditioned. I do miss the simple pares eatery style but closed and air-conditioned is highly-appreciated as there are uncontrollable factors we have to consider. There's the unpredictable weather and oh, pollution! With this setup, there's the assurance that the food they serve and the place we eat in are clean.
Speaking of, Pares Retiro still offers classic Pinoy dishes we love. On our previous visits, we were able to try Classic Pares, Pares Tendon, Bone Marrow, and Tocilog.
These simple dishes are good. If you're craving for pares or silog (a class of Filipino breakfast dishes containing sinangag and itlog), Pares Retiro won't disappoint. Plus, you don't even have to worry about the weather. Whether it's the dry or wet season, Pares Retiro has got you covered. Btw, they have a branch in Cubao and Tomas Morato but this one is located at 344 Visayas Ave corner Congressional Ave, Quezon City.
