After decades of traveling to Hawaii, I finally made it over to Dillingham Airfield near the North Shore. Off to one side of a beaten section of tarmac lies this derelict Twin Beech (N935TX). The native flora is swallowing up this Beech D18S formerly operated by Scenic Air Tours. Built in 1946, this aircraft went thru many owners before coming out to the islands in 1979. Underneath the nose is a nosewheel compartment, part of a 1961 conversion to tricycle landing gear. This Twin Beech, named ” Aloha”, lost airworthiness in 1991 due to corrosion in the wing spar and was unceremoniously dumped here. Beechcraft Model 18 (or “Twin Beech”) was manufactured by the Beech Aircraft Corporation from 1937 to 1969 with over 9,000 built.
