Whoever thinks that Twitter is not an effective to inform or create chaos, let me offer you Exhibit ZYXWABC.

World Eleven owner Guillermo Tofoni came out with this tweet on Monday. The company in charge of promoting all of the matches for the Argentine national team led the charge in what ended up being a tremendous media blitz in South American when the mogul decided to send out the following tweet:

David Beckham podría jugar en River ???? Why not ??

“Beckham could play at River?  Why not?” At that moment, media from all over began to report it as true. Even some of the morning broadcasts in Argentina began reporting this possibility.  There were even reports of Adidas (company that Tofoni represents in Argentina) footing the bill for Beckham’s salary.

They are also reports that Beckham would be playing with River during a six-month period at zero cost to the club.  Tofoni later came out and said, “Beckham is involved in a project in Miami and could easily play in Argentina.”

This in not the first time that Beckham was rumored to restart his career in South America after he retired from the game nearly eight months ago.  Just last month, Becks was rumored to return to the game in a two-match stint with Bolivian side Bolívar.  The team is owned by mogul Marcelo Claure who happens to be working alongside him in his quest to obtain a Major League Soccer franchise in South Florida.

There were rumors of a former Manchester United star heading to Argentina back in the 1970′s.  George Best, with his player pass in hand was rumored to head to South America when River Plate were in the midst of an 18-year title slump.  There were rumors abound that Best would head to Los Millonarios, but nothing ended up materializing.  As of right now, the Beckham deal to River is as close as Best’s was 38 years ago.

Here are just some of the headlines that have come out in the early moments of this “news story” breaking. Screen Shot 2014-01-06 at 10.53.10 AM Screen Shot 2014-01-06 at 10.53.41 AM Screen Shot 2014-01-06 at 10.57.54 AM
