The couple traveled from Dubai to Greece just to get marry in Athens, in a magical landscape that flows romance and natural beauty. They wanted to have a dreamy, fairytale wedding so they chose a gorgeous, exterior space that hosted the ceremony and the wedding party. From the bride: “My husband and I met in 2005 while both at York University in Toronto and have been together ever since. I was on the dance team and Khalil was on the football team. We were hosting a dance team night performing at one of the pubs on campus and he was working security at that pub with some of the other football guys. We met that night and the rest is history.”

“We were on vacation in Lebanon last summer staying at a lovely boutique hotel in the mountains with a beautiful view of the city and the sea. Khalil made a dinner reservation for the two of us, and proposed on the terrace at sunset overlooking the sea. As soon as I said yes, my sister and fiancé surprised me with champagne and cake, and then my family joined for dinner. It was lovely.”

“Since we met in Canada and now live in Dubai, we have lots of friends and guests that would have to travel for a wedding if we had it in either place. My father is Greek and Athens is so beautiful, so we figured we could have a destination wedding that’s somewhat half way in a beautiful setting where people could also plan a vacation. Having the Greek islands so close to honeymoon later made it an easy choice.”

“The wedding was set outdoors at a beautiful estate, so we didn’t need too much to make it look beautiful. We wanted something boho chic, easy going and relaxed but elegant. The colors we selected were all breezy – mint and sage greens, beige and soft pastels, perfect for the summertime and setting.”

“We added some balloons along the aisle that were released once we were pronounced husband and wife, and it was quite beautiful to see them fly away. We also made cookies in the shapes of basketballs and footballs, and labeled them “Her favorite” and “His favorite” to include personal elements and touches at the reception. We named each table after a place that we had a memory at back in university when we met, and our guests could relate to these places and found it fun.”

“Combining a boho chic style with elegance; the flowers were wildflowers, lots of leaves everywhere, white candles and brass elements. The guests were welcomed with a welcome kit each that was left in their hotel rooms – each one had several elements in a personalized pouch: a map of the city with recommended places to eat, things to do and places to see, a bottle of authentic mastiha and two shot glasses that were customized. We also gifted the guests with authentic Greek green olives in customized olive jars at the reception. The cake was simple with a subtle gradient and floral decorations.”

“The wedding gown is not exactly a style I’d usually go for, I was looking for something more boho chic and relaxed, but when I saw it I loved it and just went with it. It was a pretty quick process – Funny enough, it was the fourth dress I tried on at the first bridal shop I went to and I decided to get it. It’s Monique Lhuiller, so naturally it’s pretty soft and romantic.”

“The best thing about the wedding was having all our family and friends in one place, from Canada, Dubai, and all over the world; it was just one big party and reunion. Even better is coming home to all the polaroid photos that friends took and signed at the wedding and little puzzle pieces that all the guests signed for us and left with words of wisdom, that we can put together and hang in our new home.”

“The best moment of the wedding was the first dance. It was so genuine and lovely and I literally forgot that anyone else was there. We danced to “With you” by Chris Brown – a bit unconventional and we had listened to it a lot when we first started dating years ago so it was a special moment. The speeches from the wedding party came in at a pretty close second.”

“My advice to a bride to be is enjoy the ride. I’m not the type to stress out or worry, and people were always surprised that I wasn’t stressing out. Not sure why you’re supposed to, because in the end it’s going to be so incredibly fun no matter what, and people actually don’t notice or remember anything but having a great time with you. So enjoy the planning and the big day, because once it’s here, it flies by.”
