Apple clearly has a lot to announce at today's big iPhone event. This means that, as usual, her Beats line hasn't really received any love. The company is much happier to focus on their audio offerings instead. But the Apple-owned brand also had some news to share today.

In contrast to Apple's offerings, the new Beats are pretty focused on price. At $ 50, the Beats Flex are about a third of the introductory price of their predecessors, the similarly named BeatsX. It makes sense, of course; As wireless earphone prices have dropped significantly in recent years, Beats is looking to carve out a space well under $ 100.

The headphones feature a yoke-like form factor, which dangles around the wearer's neck when not in use. A magnetic mechanism pauses the music when the gems snap together - a different approach than environmental sensors that more expensive models use to pause playback when the wearer removes a gem from the ear.

The audio has been improved thanks to a new acoustic driver and microphone which has been improved by the BeatsX. The battery also receives a major update. It's now rated at a healthy 12 hours, meaning you'll get through a day without the need for a charging case. Good news, since there's no charging case here to speak of. There's also fast charging, thanks to the USB-C port. You should get about an hour and a half of playback with 10 minutes of charging.

The headphones can be pre-ordered today and are available in four colors.
