Be Your Own Therapist

Be Your Own Therapist

I know a few people who visit therapists here in Kuwait, for different reasons, marriage problems, counseling for childhood issues, eating disorders etc.

Don’t get me wrong, these people do GREAT jobs, but it’s easy to ‘fix yourself’. The pills that you are prescribed will only help for so long and if anything just ‘mask’ the problem. Don’t cover up your issues, bring them to the surface.

You just got to find the source of the problem, the reason why you are the way you are, the reason why you are depressed, the reason why you either want to eat as much as your stomach can possibly hold or the opposite, not eat at all.

The Number ONE thing that any therapist will tell you is, keep a journal.

Journal writing has been a life long method of therapy in itself.

Pray- whether you are religious or not, having faith in something higher than yourself and believing that you can be protected and guided will help you. If anything, prayer is a wonderful form of self-reflection.

Have fun- I can’t empahsize enough the importance of having a GREAT social circle, surround yourself with positivty. Confide in others, seek help and support from your friends.

Sitting at home, alone, listening to music, writing in your journal is GREAT, often the words of music say what we want to say but can’t, but being alone constantly isn’t good for anyone.

Get a hobby, find something you LOVE and do it well. Make sure you do have ‘alone’ time, that doesn’t mean 24/7, once a week, make time for you, have a bath, relax, take a walk, go somewhere new.

Surround yourself with positive energy and GREAT things will happen.
