Plot: In the future the Japanese school system has a class randomly selected to enter into a battle royale. A class will be forced to kill each other until there is just one of them left. There is no escape you have two choices kill or die. Who will make it out alive? That is the question on everyone’s lips.
Verdict: Japanese cinema at its best
Story: With most of the characters being school friends we get a look into the world of how schools run when you can do what you have always thought of doing. It shows how far people are willing to go to survive and how much they will struggle with life and death situations. All the killing makes film very violent but this helps explain how serious the situation is. (9/10)
Actor Review: Tatsuya Fujiwara – Nanahara he vows to protect Noriko through the battle and goes the extra mile to make sure she stays alive. Good performance filled with some very good genuine shock when committing the actions. (8/10)
Actor Review: Aki Maeda – Noriko the sweet innocent girl who is being protected by her friend Nanahara. Good performance that shows how an innocent girl can be stuck in the middle of other people’s madness. (7/10)
Actor Review: Taro Yamamoto – Kawada one of two previous winners, he survived under terms he is haunted by, but unlike the other survivor he is a good guy who wants to take down the system. Good performance much needed character to keep things at a level playing field also helpful to fill in the gaps in the story. (8/10)
Actor Review: Takeshi Kitano – Ex-teacher and now leader on the game who sends the school children out on their battle royale. Good baddie performance that shows how if you push a teacher too far he will snap. (8/10)
Director Review: Kinji Fukasaku – With a huge selection of film title to his name as a director the two Battle Royales were his final films before his death. All that experience is well shown in this film; I tip my hat to him. (9/10)
Action: With plenty of action this film has gun battles, fights and explosions a plenty. (9/10)
Thriller: Not knowing who will die and who will kill next adds thrills to this film. (8/10)
Special Effects: Great special effects used throughout. (9/10)
Believability: Not very believable but the way the world is fascinated by violence something similar could happen one day. (1/10)
Chances of Tears: No (0/10)
Settings: An empty island is a great setting for this film, adding to the suspense and the trapped feel the students must feel. (9/10)
Suggestion: This is something that has to be watched to be believed. With the Hunger Games around a lot of people will be getting into following these types of films this is the master of this genre. (Watch)
Best Part: The fact you don’t know who will die next.
Worst Part: subtitles will put people off
