The Batman TV show from the 1960s is what got me into Batman. I remember watching the first episode to feature Catwoman and absolutely falling in love with Julie Newmar. My life long obsession was ignited. I was actually lucky enough to meet the living legend, and first one screen Catwoman, this past April at C2E2. What a dream come true!
This past year many dreams have come true for Batman 66 fans. We are finally getting an action figure line (all mine are preordered!) and one of the best surprises of all is the resurgence of the original show in a new comic series!
The new digital first comic series will also be released monthly collecting three chapters from the digital series that will form something similar to the original series famous two-parter episodes. The stories will be told in the same way that the original series was. A campy fun twist on the now very dark super hero stories that are all common place.
Issues number one was fantastic. The art is amazing. It brings the perfect mix of nostalgia and likeness from the original actors. I felt right at home in the pages of the comic. Some of the dialog seemed a bit out of the norm from the TV show, almost like they were trying too hard. I’m not sure if it’s just different to read the words versus hearing them masterfully acted out by West and Ward. Regardless issue one stole my heart and I cannot wait to see all of the old characters back in action (as well as some new characters we never got the chance to witness on our screens). This is now a must read for me. So make sure to come back to the same bat-blog, by your name bat-reviewer next month for my thoughts on issue 2!
