The inhabitants of Batanes are primarily Catholic because Spanish influence spread throughout the country. The Basco Church or Santo Domingo Cathedral is more than a century old. It has undergone reconstructions and maintenance work throughout its lifetime.

The Vayang Rolling Hills typifies Batanes' landscape with its verdant hills. On a clear day, you'll get a beautiful contrast of colors; blue, white and varying shades of green. There are walking trails that lead to viewpoints.
Basco Lighthouse

Perched on Naidi Hill, the Basco Lighthouse stands six stories high and has a viewing deck that provides 360, bird's eye views of the surroundings. The current lighthouse isn't an ancient structure, but its location was where the first lighthouse was constructed in Basco.

Valugan Boulder Beach is unique; as its moniker states, its shore isn't lined with the usual white sand you see in the country, but boulders of varying sizes and shapes. This destination is an ideal photography spot, our guide told us the best time for this is during sunrise.

The prominent Abad clan of Batanes had this beautiful stone church built so they could have a place of worship they can just walk to. The family initiated the construction, but the community followed in making their contributions soon after. The church is a showcase of local design and ingenuity.

The Japanese had this network of tunnels dug as a hideout during World War II. Inside you'll see some rooms, a guard post and water reservoir.
