Ahead of the release of fourth album ‘Good Advice’, Basia Bulat has unveiled a new single called ‘Fool’. With its big-sounding Phil Spector-esque production it transports you back into the grand tradition of soulful pop a la The Supremes and The ROnettes. She sings about how ‘I’m still your fool’ time and time again against a jaunty background that also brings to mind indie-rock in the vein of The Shins or a poppier Beach House.
Dreamy and rather grand sounding, towards the end she changes the song’s signature line ever so slightly to: ‘Am I still your fool?’ before going back and correcting herself. Clocking in at under three minutes, there’s a full band sound that hints at great things to come on the album proper. Perfect pop from an artist who has always done remarkable things. Being a pop star rather suits Basia Bulat.
