Banquet for the Damned by @AdamLGNevill

By Pamelascott

Few believed Professor Coldwell could commune with spirits. But in Scotland's oldest university town something has passed from darkness into light. Now, the young are being haunted by night terrors and those who are visited disappear.

This is certainly not a place for outsiders, especially at night. So what chance do a rootless musician and burned-out explorer have of surviving their entanglement with an ageless supernatural evil and the ruthless cult that worships it? This chilling occult thriller is both a homage to the great age of British ghost stories and a pacy modern tale of diabolism and witchcraft.

I've become a huge fan of the author over the past couple of years thanks to the incredible book The Ritual, one of the best contemporary horror novels I've ever read. I still have a lot of his back-catalogue to read. I chose this because I loved the blurb, it sounded like a terrific read. It was. The book is so well-written and engaging it gets hooks into from the opening few pages and refuses to let go until you reach the end. Banquet for the Damned (love the title) is everything I love about good horror fiction. I loved it.
