For those of you that don’t know, Skrillex’s new EP debuted on iTunes on December 27th, 2011 and I’ve got to say that the dubstep album is really tastefully done. If you haven’t checked out the album yet you can preview the tracks on iTunes here. Now for the rest of the review.
First things first, I’ve gotta say that the album is pretty diverse. Skrillex also seems to be experimenting with new styles while keeping to his roots by including his signature samples and sounds. He strays just enough from what you’d expect to produce a dubstep album that sounds refreshing and different but still has the ability to keep a crowd in the club, which is very important with this genre of music. Longevity is the name of the game these days and if you can keep the attention of your fans for longer than your first album release then you might actually have something special going.
Personally, my favorite track on the album is Summit featuring Ellie Goulding. It’s been a little less than a week since the album release and the YouTube video for this song already has close to 1,000,000 views, so I’m obviously not the only one who likes this track. Not bad for a weeks work. I’ve literally had that track on repeat for the last couple of days. The only thing I wish is that Goulding’s part would have lasted a little longer but overall this track has impressed me the most. Big ups Skrillex for doing it again!
