To celebrate the 5th Birthday of The Daily Constitutional this month, our editor has compiled a list of 101 things to love about London…
In this instalment, LW guide Rex chips in with…
12/101. We Never Closed
LW Guide Rex says that it is London’s
24-Hour culture that makes it the great city that it is… at least we think
that’s what he’s saying. Here’s what he actually said…
“The best thing about London is… You can
always get a bottle of banana flavoured milk at 3am. Civilisation.”
We wonder… Why does Rex crave banana milk
at 3.00a.m? What nocturnal goings-on inspire such thirsts? (We look forward to
that blog post, Rex.)
And we speculate… Perhaps F. Scott
Fitzgerald’s “Dark Night of The Soul” in The Crack Up wouldn’t have been so
dark if he’d lived in London and was able to pop out for a nip of the yellow
stuff at 3.00a.m. Maybe Rex has a point.
(Rex would like it known that he has no
commercial relationship with Yazoo banana flavoured milk – as featured in the
pic, above – and favours no one brand of banana flavoured milk above another.)
(The Daily Constitutional would like it
known it deeply regrets besmirching the excellent work of Mark Cook with a
bottle of banana flavoured milk. Mark Cook is the artist behind the wonderful
London Walks skyline that can be seen on this blog and at www.walks.com. You
can view more of his work here: www.markcookartist.com)
Rex
Rex worked at the opening night of the Rainbow Theatre rock music venue in Finsbury Park – it was his first grown up job! After that he got a history degree at LSE and has been a public relations man, political campaigner, lobbyist and managing director of a firm in the City of London. Today he is a Blue Badge guide and an elected councillor in Tooting, South London. He can often be found of a Friday afternoon leading the Rock'n'Roll London Walk.
A
London Walk costs £9 – £7 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your
guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all
London Walks can be found at www.walks.com.
