Via Baltimore Sun: David Berdan, a 32-year-old science teacher and cross country coach at Garrison Forest, won Saturday’s Baltimore Marathon, becoming the first local champion in the 13 years of the Baltimore Running Festival.
Erika Brannock, a preschool teacher from Towson who lost part of her lower left leg because of injuries sustained during attack in Boston, served as the honorary starter Saturday. She also held the yellow tape as Berdan crossed the finish line.
I have a lot of fun on this site and spend most of my time spouting out ridiculous pictures and comments, but this is different. This is a pretty cool moment where the winner of the Baltimore Marathon, who is a teacher and coach in Baltimore, gets to share the moment with Erika Brannock who was injured during the Boston Marathon Bombing earlier this year. When I talk about ‘Merica, this is what I mean. Two people sharing a moment that is probably too surreal. I love the picture of the three women almost looking at Berdan in awe. Just impressed with what the young man just did. Too cool.
P.S. It was brought to my attention that this guy is 32 years old and just won the marathon. It was also brought to my attention that I’m 32. Looks like I’ve got to win a marathon. Pretty much the only thing that can happen at this point.
