“Baltimore City, You’re Breaking My Heart” Is Laughable In My Opinion. Here’s Why.

If you live in Baltimore, you’ve probably come across the article, “Baltimore City You’re Breaking My Heart” by Tracey Halvorsen.  It’s a whole lot of complaining about the current state of Baltimore.  Ms. Halvorsen spends far too many words talking about the problems that face her city.  She then spends a bunch of words pointing the finger at the mayor and city officials.  What Ms. Halvorsen doesn’t do is talk about solutions.  She says she does her part, “I don’t know how to fix Baltimore’s crime problem, but in my opinion, I do my part. I pay my taxes, I run a business where I employ other citizens of Baltimore, and my business provides a service to other Baltimore businesses and people. I report suspicious activity, I come to help when someone yells “Help”, I try to keep my home looking nice, and I leave my outside lights turned on at night.”

Well, ms. Halvorsen, good for you.  I’m glad that you leave your lights on, or call the police when you are scared.  I’m happy you employ people from Baltimore even if there’s little to no diversity on your staff.

That’s cool, no big deal, really.  But you know what I’d really like you to do?  Stop complaining and do something.  There are numerous organization in this city and beyond that are dedicated to helping improve this city.  Go get involved.  And who knows, maybe you already are.  Maybe you’re the most involved person in the city.  All I know is this isn’t the way you turn things around.  I’m not impressed with links to all the negative press the city has received recently.  Maybe you could have added a few nice stories about the city, a few success stories about Baltimore in your blog.  Maybe some talk about people from Baltimore doing really good things in the city and beyond.  Would that have been too much to ask?

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks.  Thanks for being a clown.  Thanks for climbing on your high horse and pointing out all the negative things you see.  Things that already get too much press in the papers on the local news.  Maybe what you should do is research some of the fantastic things that happen here in Baltimore.  I’ve been here since 2006 and I’m damn proud of it.  Proud enough to not talk about the negatives and instead simply tell people how happy I am.  Proud enough that half my damn family has followed me down to Baltimore from various parts of the country.  I’m cool with this place.

P.S. I’m tired of reading shit like this:

I’m tired of answering the question, “Is Baltimore really like The Wire?” Answer: “Yeah it’s a complete shit-hole war zone depending on what street you turn down”.

Way to stay positive.  If you don’t like it, go somewhere else.  You’ve been here long enough.

She’s halfway honest and reasonable, while you’re completely dishonest and despicable. I can see why you would despise her.
