Story: Baghead starts when Iris Lark (Allan) inherits a run-down pub from her estranged father Owen (Mullan). It could help Iris clean up her money troubles, but the pub has an unusual attachment. Iris unwittingly becomes the guardian of a shape-shifting creature that lives in the basement.

When a stranger Neil (Irvine) arrives wanting to meet the creature, Iris learns about the abilities it possesses. The creature lets people speak to their loved ones from beyond the grave and seeing a potential way to clear her debts, she lets Neil into the basement. However, Iris isn’t prepared for what she has found herself involved in.

Verdict on Baghead

Baghead is a horror thriller following a young woman who inherits a pub filled with a massive secret. It holds a shape-shifting creature whose powers can bring the dead back to life, for a short time. However, there is a much more sinister story behind the creature.

This movie comes from a short movie which brings the creature to life. It uses the estranged family member and inheritance concept well, to offer a chance for a young woman to turn her life around. The concept behind the creature is interesting and we saw something similar in ‘Talk to Me’, having a short connection with the dead.

This brings together the basics of the idea, with a bit of investigating into the history. A series of solid scares and creative connections. However, it does end up feeling rushed and not as polished as it wants to be. The CGI transformations look bad, and we don’t seem to dive deep enough into the history. In the end, it is a watchable horror and you can have some fun with it.

Where to Watch

Baghead is released on Blu-ray & DVD on the 8th of April 2024.

Final Thoughts Baghead has a great concept, but seems to get held back from unleashing everything.
