Bad BO and Irrational Kid

By Blairbarnes

I love being a server, but we can all agree sometimes it will just
pluck your nerves. After going MIA for awhile not working, this was
one of my most recent tables.

I had started working at a new restaurant, and it was late in the day,
almost at the end of my shift. A family of three came in, and I could
tell by looking at them they were going to be trashy. Not steriotyping
but come on, as servers we all know how easy that is to do?!

They smelt of the worst BO you could ever imagine. So bad that the
hostess told me while they were there they wouldn’t seat anyone else
in my section because their odor was just too strong. They looked like
they hadn’t bathed in days! I asked them what they would like to
drink. We serve milkshakes. The son asked me if he could get unlimited
refills. Obviously not. I explained this to him and he tried to tell
his mom he was ordering two. I could tell she was getting agitated.
She finally said no he could order one. So he decides to order a
milkshake and a soda. This is fine because most people don’t want just
a milkshake because they are thick. But I have never had to explain no
free refills! Then the son asks me if he can order a burger, and
upgrade the salad to a taco salad. I try to explain that the taco
salad is a separate meal, and I can give him a regular salad but will
have to charge him twice for both the burger and taco salad. He asks
his mom if he can order both. You can tell the boy pushes his mom
around. She says no, so finally he orders just the burger. This is
after like a five minute discussion with me. I think I devoted thirty
minutes just talking to the child alone, giving him refill after
refill of his sodas.

Afterwards, the mom wants to complain to the manager because I charged
her for bacon on her burger. Well, she asked to add bacon and I
explained to her the additional charge!

All in all they left me one dollar. Worst hour of my life!

I don’t understand why first parents let their kids behave that way
and second why people think they can treat us as servers with so much
disrespect.

I also don’t like the fact when old people come in, they hand you a
dollar and is like this is for you. Like seriously? What the hell am I
supposed to do with that?
