BAC unveils its first Mono R and its wearing a livery from Wipeout

The fact that the BAC mono is a damn cool (but very niche) vehicle. How do you turn what is already a kind of catnip to car-crazy people into something even more unique and special?

Well, you hit the paint job of one of the ships from the absolutely fantastic (and totally 90s) PlayStation racing game Wipeout. This is exactly what BAC did for a customer who received the very first example of their limited-edition BAC Mono R. The results are really, really cool.

What is a BAC Mono R.? Well, it's the more powerful version of the already single-seat BAC Mono with bananas. In addition to a comprehensive redesign of the vehicle's body, together with the British tuning company Mountune, BAC developed a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 340 hp for the R.

Wipeout's specific paint job is that of FEISAR (aka Federal European Industrial Science and Research), and recreating it for the Mono R required a surprising amount of effort.

According to BAC, painting took more than 10 days thanks to more than 400 painted graphics on the vehicle. Yes, that's right: paint - no vinyl here. Since the Mono R has no special features such as a roof or a windshield, BAC also had its team painted a helmet so that the happy driver would match the body of the car.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll call my mom and have her email my old PlayStation so I can play wipeout obsessively like it's back to 1996.
