Swansea’s Baby Schillachi follow up their debut album ‘The Soundtrack’ with an ode to the haunting power of hymns and more menacing side of Yuletide. They also make no secret of the fact they have their eyes on next year’s John Lewis ad…
Starting with evocative piano notes and a question of ‘Why am I not feeling Christmassy?’, the band go on to talk about something being up in the atmosphere before things get turned up into something far more grungey and a touch mathy – complete with distorted strings. With elements of Mclusky, The Cooper Temple Clause and Fontaines DC working their way in, the band figure out what’s wrong – and it’s something lots of us will recognise: ‘Everyday life takes its toll on me. At this time of year, we should be who we want to be’; ‘Just not feeling it this year’.
