Due to the changing weather and wrong eating, there is hardly anyone who is not affected by skin diseases. Skin diseases include many diseases like eczema, leprosy, allergy, blackness, and lycoderma which do not heal quickly. The patients get upset and start taking steroids etc. medicines. Initially, everything is fine, but after some time problems start with steroids. In such a situation, Ayurveda has better options that protect from long-term skin diseases without any damage. Nowadays most of the people suffering from eczema. It is a type of skin disease. In this disease, the skin becomes dry and feels like itching again and again as there is a lack of moisture on the upper surface of the skin. In severe cases of eczema, pus and blood secretion also starts from the affected areas of the skin. The disease is also known as dermatitis.
All skin diseases in the Ayurveda are said to be under leprosy. There are 18 types of leprosy in Ayurveda. In which there are eight Mahakushtha and 11 Chudhakrushta. This disease is mainly due to bile and blood dysfunction and spreads rapidly in the body if not treated
What is Eczema?
In the case of eczema, red patches on the skin, swelling, itching, the skin becomes cracked and rough. Blisters develop in some people. In the United States, the proportion of people suffering from eczema is high. There are different types and stages of eczema. Eczema is particularly “atopic dermatitis” which is the most common type of eczema.
Atopic means a group of diseases related to the immune system, including atopic dermatitis, fever, and asthma. Dermatitis is an inflammatory condition of the skin.
For most infants, the condition increases in their tenth year, while some people continue with symptoms throughout their lives. People with proper treatment can keep good control over the disease. Living with eczema is challenging and can range from mild, moderate to severe.
Eczema develops on the cheeks and chin in infants, but it can appear anywhere in the body. Even adults can develop with this condition, even if it was not from their childhood.
What are the symptoms of Eczema?
It is important to remember that eczema and its symptoms vary from person to person. Some common symptoms of eczema are as follows:
- The first symptom is severe itching.
- Later, the rash appears with redness, developing with bumps of different sizes.
- Itching can irritate, especially in thin skin like eyelids.
- It may start erupting and become crusty when scratched.
- Prolonged rubbing causes thick plaques in the skin in adults
- Over time, painful cracks may appear.
- Skull problems may rarely be involved.
- Eyelashes itching, pimples, and reddening
- The itching sensation may disturb sleep patterns
- Fungal infections in the form of herpes, viral infections such as herpes and molluscum infection are more common symptoms in people with eczema.
What is the main cause of Eczema?
The main reason is not yet known. The most common type is Atopic dermatitis that resembles an allergy. Mostly the skin gets irritated, found commonly in children as compared to adults who do not have an allergic reaction. However, joint factors that cause eczema are found.

- Allergic contact dermatitis (eczema) – a skin reaction that occurs with exposure to a foreign substance.
- Contact Eczema – This happens when the skin comes in contact with a certain allergen.
- Dehydrotic eczema – is characterized by skin irritation and small blisters on the soles of the feet and palms.
- Neurodermatitis – is a crust and itchy patch on the lower leg, wrist, forearms, and hands.
- Pneumular Eczema – Circular patches that are itchy, flaky, and crusty.
- Seborrheic eczema – yellowing of the skin, dry and oily skin, and freckles on the face.
- Stasis dermatitis – mostly it is related to circulatory problems and it leads to skin irritation on the lower surface of legs.
What is the Best Prevention for Eczema?
Some of how eczema can be prevented are:
- Fast sweating and excess heat can trigger eczema outbreaks. Avoid the heat environment and always keep your bedroom cool.
- The outbreak of stress can increase. Do physical exercises, yoga, meditation to avoid stress and stay relaxed
- Do not scratch the skin, gently rub the itchy area.
- Wear comfortable clothes. Especially the selection of cotton clothes allows your body to breathe well.
- Do not be exposed to irritability and allergies
- Try a warm bath instead of hot water
- Use a mild soap for bathing and patting the skin instead of rubbing
- Drink at least eight glasses of water to keep your skin moist
- Use mild moisturizer
What is the method for the diagnosis of eczema?
A detailed medical history will help in the diagnosis of eczema. Also, additional tests support atopic dermatitis.
- Blood test: In this test, eosinophil levels and IgE antibodies will be tested. Typically, people with atopic dermatitis and eczema will have elevated levels of eosinophils and IgE.
- Skin biopsy: Small pieces of skin are removed for other diseases such as atopic dermatitis other than low-grade skin cancer or psoriasis.
- Buccal swab: One of the main causes of eczema is the swelling of the tissue from the inside of the cheek with a cotton applicator to obtain cells as DNA source material to detect a mutation in the phylagrain gene.
Apart from the above, a patch test, a skin allergy test will be done from time to time.
What is the Best Treatment for Eczema?
- Eczema treatment is provided with four goals such as controlling itching, healing the skin, preventing flare, and preventing infection. Its treatment depends on age, medical history, and how bad the symptoms are.
- Creams containing hydrocortisone steroids help to relieve itching and reduce inflammation. They are available in different strengths from OTC to prescription drugs.
- NSAID Ointment is a new prescription non-steroidal, an anti-inflammatory drug used to treat mild to moderate eczema. It is recommended to be applied twice a day and it is effective in reducing inflammation and helping the skin look normal.
- Antibiotics are prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by skin clearing. Antihistamines help in relieving the symptoms of itching at night time.
- Drugs help to reduce immunity such as cyclosporine, methotrexate, and mycophenolate mofetil and corticosteroid tablets, shots, liquids are used to reduce flare and itchiness.
- UV light therapy and PUVA therapy are also recommended.
How can you get rid of Eczema naturally?
The natural methods of treating eczema are as follows:
- Licorice root extract indicates a reduction in itching. Adding a few drops of coconut oil or itching cream provides additional benefits.

Although food is not directly involved with the condition, it aggravates the symptoms. Preservative and artificial waste also increase symptoms, and such foods are high in trans fats such as margarine, processed food.
Highly flavored ingredients such as cakes, some smoothie burgers induce inflammation. People suffering from dehydration eczema should avoid nickel-rich foods like lentils, black tea, beans, conch, pears, and green apples. It is always good to have a well-balanced diet and avoid whatever you feel personal.
What causes eczema: In Ayurveda, along with food and drink, it also plays an important role in causing diseases. We are talking about both these reasons –
Diet-related reasons –
- Consuming diets against. For example, the use of salt with milk, consumption of citrus with milk, eating radish, and garlic with milk.
2. Taking green vegetables mostly with milk.
3. Excessive alcohol consumption.
4. Excessive intake of bile diet etc.
Lifestyle reasons –
- Exercising after meals or going in the sun.
- Immediately bathing with cold water after coming from the sun.
- Sleeping regularly during the day.
- Stopping the movements of feces and urine etc.
- To be very angry
- Not respecting elders and gurus.
What are the ways to avoid it-?
- Do not touch the laundry powder with bare hands at all, even if you touch, use gloves.
- Do not wear tight clothes in a place that suffers from eczema, which will rub the skin
- Do not use synthetic clothes at all, because sweat does not dry out.
- Do not use any type of chemical, color, etc. on the skin.
- Do not use dye to paint hair.
- Do not use unnecessary cream on the face.
- There is a risk of allergy due to dusty soil particles. Avoid it
- Tattoo bad effect on the skin
What is the treatment in Ayurveda?
It is a Tridoshaj disorder in which blood is predominantly dandruff, hence most blood purifying drugs are used in it. Treatment should be done only under the supervision of a qualified physician. Many medicines have been called Yoga in Ayurveda which works perfectly in this disease like – Khadirarishta, Mahamanjisthadi Kwath, Kaishor Guggulu, Triphala Guggulu, Gandhakadi Malhar, Marichyadi Tail, Karanja Tail, etc.
Apart from this, its Panchakarma therapy has also been described in Ayurveda, in which all three functions are vaman, purgation, and raktmokshan.

1. Aloe vera

2. Neem oil
Neem and Nimbauri oil have two main anti-inflammatory compounds. Neem oil moisturizes the skin, reduces any pain, and provides protection against infection. For this, take a quarter of olive oil and add 10 to 12 neem oil drops and apply it on the affected area. There will be a sensation on the skin but it will benefit.
3. Honey and cinnamon
For this, take 2 teaspoons honey and 2 teaspoons cinnamon powder and mix it well and make a paste. Wash the affected area of eczema then apply this paste. Wash with water after drying. Honey calms skin irritation, reduces inflammation, and speeds up the healing process. Cinnamon is also an antimicrobial agent. It is rich in antioxidants and also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Ayurvedic treatment for Eczema:

4. Twak churna:
Twak churna has two main ingredients – Yashtimadhu Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) and (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
that work amazingly in case of skin disorders. The churna has antiandrogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial, properties that treat pimples and also prevent it from re-occurrence. The herb Manjistha shows antibacterial action on Propionibacterium and other called Staphylococcus epidermidis which are the main cause of pimple and acne formation.
Recommended Dosage –1 teaspoonful of twak churan is taken twice daily with normal water.
