Ayrshire College, Creative Arts, End of year Show.
So a couple of weeks ago a photo of myself was on exhibition at Ayrshire College in Scotland - Photos will be shown later.
But while I was at the exhibition, a few drawings and paintings caught my eye. Im not sure if these images were part of the same theme or even by the same artist - as no names where displayed - however I loved the idea by one artist who said “ Monsters dont sleep under your bed, they live inside your head ”, as this summed up, collectively all of the images that caught my eye.
I recently worked on a photo series all about body image, where I get my scar and deformed back out for all the world to see as well as look closley at the bits of my body which i see as flawed. I did this not through self loathing but as a kind of liberation for myself & other women. Namely the kind of women i get as clients in my job as personal shopper/styliste, who can rhyme off a list of things they dont like about their bodies then look at size 10, bean-pole me and say “your so lucky, you can wear whatever you like.” They dont believe i have cellulite on my ass too, they dont know that I hate that you can see my ribs and that I dont have boobs and they dont even notice my deformity. So I decided to put it all out there on the table for woman to see me as i see myself and then to shrug it all off, because - IT DOESNT MATTER - we are all flawed but we are all gorgeous too, its about adjusting the way you see yourself in your minds eye - thats the trick and I think these atrtworks by Ayrshire college students sum up my feelings on the subject, perfectly! Well done by the way, what a lot of talent there is in my home country! xxx
Photos from my “Body Image” photo-shoot coming soon. Just waiting to have them sent from the photographer; Who is by the way, my brilliant mum, Rhonda Moodley, currently making a name for herself in the UK photographic community and was recently invited to photograph Prince Charles!
Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming Pix and news xoxo LLM
