Is there anything better than getting your hair styled by someone else? Here's the lowdown on the latest blow dry bar on the scene here in the North East.
I find that when I go to get a haircut and the stylist blow dries my hair, they always style it better! Whether it's because when I dry it, I blast some hot air, sometimes quickly running straighteners over then a spray of hairspray and I go...anyone else? I think when someone else styles your hair, they put a lot more thought into it and who can really curl the back of their hair properly? I know I can't! So when I was invited along to Aveda's blow dry bar in Fenwick, Newcastle, I was very excited. I'd seen the bar and knew it looked the part, I'm pleased to say I wasn't disappointed.
Welcomed by the staff and offered a cuppa; Jess, my stylist, soon introduced herself and explained the blow dry services on offer and the differences between them. I was trying out the Power Stay Sensory blow dry (from £37) which included a head and neck massage as well as washing and styling my hair.
I asked Jess to give me some volume and some curls that would last. I find if I curl my hair at home, they'll drop pretty quick - not good when you want that beachy look all day. She gave me some tips on curling my hair and introduced me to their wonder product - thickening tonic - which literally does what you expect; perfect. I've been using it almost every time I blow dry my hair since and I've definitely noticed a difference.
Leaving with bouncy curls, I felt so much better. It's amazing what a little pamper does for your self esteem and my visit to Aveda definitely brightened up a cold winter morning.
I'd definitely go back, maybe trying a sleek, straight do next time. With a range of appointments available from dry styling if you're pushed for time, to extra pamper sessions like mine, it's a great treat. Pretty sure if I worked in Newcastle I'd be tempted to get my hair styled there weekly! Thanks to Aveda for providing a complimentary blow dry for review. All photos and opinions my own.
