Autumn Vacation: Why I Love October

By Simone Design Blog @HomeSpire

My husband, Christopher, and I are enjoying an impromptu autumn vacation this year. We are in Funchal, the capitol city of the Island of Madeira in Portugal. It’s a picturesque island in the Atlantic that is  about a 1 1/5 hours flight from Lisbon. It’s an island formed by volcanoes and one of two autonomous islands belonging to Portugal. Another claim to fame is it’s wines. Take it from me, they’re delicious! We arrived here Sunday afternoon and have been discovering the food, people and attractions in Madeira. My report? You need to visit to really appreciate its natural beauty. Pictures can only do so much.

I’ve taken so many pictures so far that editing them will be quite labor-intensive. But I’m not complaining. Our hotel is decorated in a minimalistic style with various shades of gray. The seating areas have tufted furniture that invites you to sit and relax. It’s decor is beautifully done.

Here, let me show you.

Believe me, when you sit on these furnishings you are not sinking into them–they’re firm and oh so comfortable. I have tried each piece and they conform to your body perfectly.

I’ve vacationed in Europe numerous times, but I never realized that there was an island there that had so much natural beauty. Madeira is safe, clean and reasonably priced, and has lots of things to see and do there. I’m greatly enjoying myself and I know you would too.
