Autumn Makeup

Autumn Makeup

My 2015 autumn makeup arsenal. Lately I’ve been really enjoying wearing makeup, which has been unheard of in my life since the humidity kicked in. But the autumn has arrived and I wanted to share my current makeup picks that I’m reaching for to get a darker, warmer, season-appropriate look.
Naked1 Palette
Whilst unpictured, I’ve gone back to my old faithful Naked1 palette from Urban Decay to bring smokey depth to my eyes. I have two go-to eye makeup looks in the autumn, more out of routine than “I’ve totally nailed my signature look”. One is a dusting of Sin all over the lid with Toasted worked into the outer corner for depth. Sometimes I press Sidecar into the center of the lid and smudge it out slightly for some glitter, but that’s usually for days where I have plans in the evening (i.e. never, at present!). I usually pair this paler look with a bright red lip.
If I’m going for a pink, neutral or bare lip, I take it as an opportunity to play up my eyes. Being a glasses-wearer, I can get away with much darker hues for everyday! Lately my daily smokey eye of choice has been to take Smog on my ring finger and concentrate it near my lash line, blending it out over the lid. Then I add another layer to get the shimmer going.
Sailormoon Miracle Make Liquid Eyeliner
I bought this months ago purely because it looks like a Sailormoon wand but had no idea it’d quickly become my favorite eyeliner. Long-term readers will know I was obsessed with the Elizabeth Arden gel eyeliner (and later, the Bobbi Brown one) but this is the one I reach for all the time at the moment. Long-lasting, cry proof and sweat proof, it creates a crisp, super-black line and I don’t think I can be without it! I’m currently opting for a tapered, extended line, a la K-pop girls ;)
YSL Beaute Babydoll Mascara
I was first introduced to Babydoll when I worked with YSL Beaute a few months ago and I absolutely adore this formula. More so than the Shocking edition that I’d previously selected for myself. The formula is humidity proof (tried and tested!) and holds a curl, too! The synthetic wand coats the lashes evenly and is great for a natural, slightly fuller lash look.
Illamasqua Powder Blush in Naked Rose
Another long-standing staple, I’ve been so excited to dig this bad boy out again! Naked Rose offers a pretty, rose pink flush to the cheeks – I tend to just pop this on the apples of my cheeks and blend out, tapering downwards slightly for a more natural, innocent look. It complements both red and nude lip looks really well!
Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 111
This is no surprise to anybody in the beauty blogging game, but my go-to red lipstick is the Kate Moss Matte in 111. This is a really rich, true, post-box red that I find complements my pale olive skin tone well without washing me out or drawing out any yellowness. It doesn’t ever, every dry out my lips and stays put for oh so long. Certainly a drink-proof one! Oddly enough, I can’t pull off 107 because it’s too dark, but another shade I like is 110 for a brighter, more coral red.
Laneige BB Cushion
For the autumn, I surprisingly like plenty of coverage. Whilst I don’t necessarily “need” it, I find that a flawless canvas complements a bold lip really well, so I pop a light veil of this on. As the autumn pulls in, it’s easy to forget about SPF too, but thankfully this one has SPF50/PA++++ so my face is still well-protected, even when I assume there’ll be little to no sun! Sometimes I set it with the Chanel Les Beiges finishing powder, but oftentimes I’m good to go.
Etude House Drawing Brow Pencil
I’m fairly lucky to have full, richly coloured brows so I don’t do too much to my brows except from the occasional thread, pluck and shade. I do, however, sleep on my sides, so I love this waxy pencil from my favorite Korean brand to fill in the ends of my brows and define the front of them a little. Defined brows make such a huge difference – but you knew that already eh? Thanks reign of Cara Delevinge!
Etude House Play 101 Pencils in 4, 48 and 6
My Play 101 pencils are my pride and glory – easily the best thing I’ve invested in this year. I like to line the outer third of my waterline with 48, a shimmery copper brown, to create a rounder and bigger eye shape, whilst 4 or 6 is used in the tearduct area to brighten the area and create a literal sparkle to the eyes. It’s definitely the game-changer in my routine and the one that people will compliment me on in real life! Even guys note that they “like that glittery thing my eyes do when I blink”. Win!
Barry M Matte Nail Varnish
I think matte nails are a 'done' thing but I couldn't resist them once more this season. I adore the sleek sophistication of them and this rich wine hue is perfect for this time of year. It really complements all skin tones and I only just realised how much I miss Boots and Barry M, upon tapping out this post. It's the little things, eh?
