Citrus Leahy is having a really bad day. First she's late to school. Then she runs into the girl who drives her nuts because she always calls her Orange instead of her name. To cap it all off, when Citrus finally makes it to class, she sees herself already inside. Wait. What? Citrus Leahy has a doppelganger! It's probably aliens taking over the world and her life has just turned totally upside down. Goodbye, normal. Hello, paranormal! Luckily, her crush Aedan has the exact same problem!~synopsis provided by Goodreads
Do you plan your novels out or does the story just flow? I try to have a vague plan, a general idea of where my stories are going to go – beginning, middle, and end. Overall, though, I just let the stories flow. I find that even if I have planned most of the story, so many things end up happening while I’m writing that take me off my path. I like that – it means that the story is unfolding as it should and is surprising me as well. Hopefully it will do the same for my reader.
Do you fight with your characters? I don’t really fight with my characters…although, now that I think about it, sometimes they are pretty stubborn about letting me know what they’re going to do next. That’s usually when I get up and make cookies or clean the house. It just means we need some space.
What book are you reading now? I just started reading Ruby in the Smoke by Philip Pullman. A friend recommended it awhile ago and it’s been sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read. I liked The Golden Compass and I love mysteries, so I’m hoping for a fun read!
Do you prefer hardbacks, paperbacks, or eBooks? Ooo, hard question. I like paperbacks or ebooks. Paperbacks are just what I grew up reading and I like physical books, but ebooks are quickly winning me over. I can have a ton of them on my ipad and I don’t need to read with a light if it’s dark. Plus, when I travel I can take a ton of books with me without stuffing my suitcase and making it weigh a ton! Perfect!
Is it easy writing more than one series at a time (Funeral Crashers and The Doppelgangers)? No, definitely not! Still, in this case, it’s working for me. If I get stuck on one series, I jump back to the other and it usually works – I get unstuck! Right now I’m working on Funeral Crashing #3 and will get onto Doppelganger #2 once I’m done with it.
Pick one of the books you've written. Now, which part was your favorite? I pick Adventures in Funeral Crashing. My favorite part is when the main characters are out on a double date: there’s Kait (the funeral crashing weird girl) & Troy (the cute college guy murder suspect) and Ariel (Kait’s ex-best friend) & Ethan (Kait’s crush). Ethan and Kait are really trying to investigate Troy, but it all goes awry. It’s a fun scene.
How did you get the idea for the Funeral Crashers Series? I was at a funeral with my mom and after we left we got on the subject of professional mourners – people who go to funerals all the time. I thought that was fascinating and then my brain went – what if I wrote a story about a sixteen year old professional mourner? That became the Funeral Crashing Series!
If you could live in any TV (or book) universe, which would it be? Wow, that’s a hard one. I’d mention some of my favorite shows or books, but there’s always disadvantages. Like, I love The Vampire Diaries TV show (and books by LJ Smith!), but you might not make it out alive from one of their weekly crazy scenarios, much less actually get one of the hot vampire brothers to fall in love with you. And, I love the book Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, but I’m not sure I’d be able to remember all of the rules and what if I was forced into marrying someone like Mr. Collins? Eeeew! I guess I’m good in my own world for now!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? For a change, I think it would be really fun to live in Paris, France. I guess I just want to go there, but in general, anywhere abroad and totally different would be fun to live for awhile!
How do you get rid of (daily) stress?
I hug my dog. Her name is Licorice and I probably drive her crazy when I just up and give her a hug out of nowhere, but it’s the perfect stress reliever.
If you could time travel, where would you go? Who would you meet? Why this time/place/person? I would actually love to meet Jane Austen because I think she’s an interesting person and I love her books. It would be really great to talk to her about writing.
What is the most adventurous thing you've ever done? Well, off the top of my head, I went on a zip wire excursion on Catalina Island. That was adventurous for me! I have a very slight fear of heights, but I did it anyway, faced that fear, and it was a ton of fun! By the end, I didn’t notice the height and was actually able to take in the pretty surroundings from way up high as I zipped along the wire. Fun and adventurous! Plus, I was on my honeymoon and that made the experience even more memorable and fun!
Thank you for having me on your blog! *You're welcome!*
