Authenticity

Today, when I decided to write, I simply didn’t have any idea what my topic will be. I tried hard to come across intellectual and funny at the same time. After numerous futile attempts, I realized that I am not being truthful to myself and hence words are not flowing from my heart.

Doesn’t this happen with all of us? We put unnecessary pressure on ourselves and we try to impress others by being the most fraudulent version that we don’t recognize. I am a huge believer that each of us has our own authentic personality, a personality that makes us stand out from the crowd. Sure, we are flawed and there are cracks too, but those cracks and flaws are the proof that our journey is different than the rest, our battles are different, and our coping mechanism is also different.

Recently I was listening to Janet Mock, she had wonderfully explained the power of how accepting one’s uniqueness can do wonders in our life. The amount of work we put in to make ourselves look, feel and behave like others is so exhausting and time consuming that, at the end of the day, neither are we fully happy nor are we fully successful. Being true to our self and being authentic about ourselves is the one thing that set us free and open the doors to the wonderful life that embraces us with our whole uniqueness and ipseity.

There are very simple steps that help us to be our authentic self. These steps are widely preached by all the well-known spiritual leaders and scholars.

  • Stop seeking Validation from others
  • Find peace and comfort in your own company
  • Be true to yourself
  • Focus on yourself rather than mending others
  • Accept your flaws and passions whole heartedly.

These are the few easy steps that will help us to grow, fulfill and learn in our life. As Brene Brown says in her book:

Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.

So, let’s be true to our life, our hear and to our soul.
