The Australia Under 19 team successfully chased down 209 runs in their World Cup match against Sri Lanka yesterday. Openers Harry Dixon (49) and Sam Konstas (23) set the tone, while a vital 49-run partnership between Harjas Singh (17) and Ryan Hicks led to a six-wicket win with seven balls remaining.
Tom Campbell (33) also played a significant role, alongside Hicks (77), guiding Australia steadily towards the target in 48.5 overs, reaching 211/4. Ryan Hicks was named the Man of the Match.
Sri Lanka chose to bat after winning the toss. Dinura Kalupahana was the mainstay of Sri Lanka’s innings, scoring 64 runs from 78 balls with nine boundaries and two sixes. However, his dismissal by Callum Vidler halted their progress, despite Sharujan Shanmuganathan’s 21 helping Sri Lanka reach 208 before being bowled out in the 50th over.
Australia made early inroads with three wickets in the first 15 overs. Vidler and Tom Campbell led the attack with Callum returning after illness to take 2/21 dismissing both openers: Pulindu Perera (0) and Sineth Jayawardena (16). Campbell took the wicket of Supun Waduge, who scored 17, in the 15th over.
Ravishan de Silva and Dinura Kalupahana then began the revival. Following Ravishan’s dismissal for 30 by Harjas Singh, Kalupahana ensured stability in the innings.
