So this is how my story went... The day AT&T started unlocking iPhones i called and told them i wanted to unlock my iPhone, so the representative asked me for my IMEI number and gave me a case number and said she will call to check on the process. Two days later i got a email from AT&T telling me to provide my Account number and a receipt showing the price i paid for the device. The thing is i didnt buy it from Apple or a AT&T store i bought it from someone brand new in the box never opened, so i just ignored that email. The next day the same Representative called me asking me about the case, so i told her i got a email asking me for some information and i could not provide those information since i didnt have a receipt. The next day i got a email from AT&T saying i was eligible for an unlock and told me what to do in order for the phone to be unlocked. i gave up my jailbreak, because i had to update to 5.1, just to see if my phone was going to be unlocked. After i restored my phone it said my phone was unlocked.
A couple days later i got another email saying they resolved my case, the next day i got another email saying i was ineligible for an unlock. I was like what? i just totally ignored that email. I don't know if it was a mistake or something but it said that the device was a iPhone 4 but i have the iPhone 4S. I haven't tried a different carrier yet, if i come to find out it didnt unlock i will be calling AT&T about the issue. The point is if you have a iPhone that you bought from Craigslist or Ebay, you can unlock your phone. Maybe i was lucky I dont know lol.
