Athletes Among Us

Athletes Among Us is the latest photographic project from Jordan Matter, the artist who brought us the Dancers Among Us; Barnes and Nobles coffee table book of 2012. Inspired by his years of intense baseball practice with his father as means of exercising his demons, Jordan’s project intends to depict the dedication and emotional as well as physical strength it takes to become and remain an athlete. The juxtaposition of athletes going about their daily lives with the same drive they apply to their sporting goals makes for thought provoking and often amusing viewing. Jordan himself says that the images are there to remind us ‘to never give up and to keep striving for excellence, no matter what path we have chosen.’ The images in Athletes Among Us serve as a visual reminder of this important lesson. Perhaps do not take to tackling your girlfriend into bed though.
