Atheistic Conservatism; The Rules

Me, a few others, along with fellow guest blogger, Morgan, had a brief back and forth over at his place concerning atheism including the percentage of perpetually aggrieved Jackwagon atheists versus the more tolerant non-believers, like myself.

Which prompted me to recall how I’ve often threatened to start an organization in response to yet another ridiculous story about some militant atheists taking great offense to some silly, minor grievance. So I’ve come up with the following -

The American Society of Conservative Atheists

1.) We respect our fellow American’s choice of religious beliefs* as they respect our lack thereof.

2.) We understand as Conservatives that our political beliefs of individual liberties, a strong military and the free market economy are of more importance than taking offense to our fellow Conservative’s religious observations.

3.) We comprehend and appreciate, nor do we wish to diminish, the role religion played in the founding of our great nation and are not offended by it whatsoever.

4.) We understand and support “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”. We will not interpret it to mean anything other than what it clearly states.

5.) We will not devout our time and energy to lawsuits, protests and the like, to displays of religion such as the following; crosses at military memorials, nativity scenes at schools or government buildings, the words or symbols such as “In God We Trust” , “One Nation Under God”, etc.

6.) We shall celebrate and cherish together with our pious brethren our common bond of conservatism and disdain for liberalism. Which will be stronger than our differences and we will not allow those differences to come between us.

* Islam is not a recognized religion
