ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser: Specifications and Price

Posted on the 30 August 2015 by Jyoti Arora @Jy0tiAr0ra

Yesterday, while we were returning from Delhi, our way brought us close to the famous India Gate. India Gate is one of the most popular destinations for Delhiwallas who desire to pass some free time with friends, family or the special one in an open and green place. Ever since I remember, the parks around India Gate remain full of picnickers. Balloon float around in the air as little hands of children throw them up gleefully. The hawkers of little toys, balloon and ice-cream add to the fun of the scene.

However, yesterday, the scene was a little altered. All the above delights were there. But most people appeared busy in clicking pictures using their phones. Clicking selfies especially, rather than enjoying the open air, the green environs or the historic monument. Many were walking around, but most of them only to find a suitable spot for another selfie.

Such is the craze of selfies now. And groupies are getting popular and popular too. We are getting really narcissistic, aren't we?

Even the research has shown how much people love taking photos using their phones.

ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser: Specifications and Price(Did you notice that calling is no longer the most popular feature of our phones?)

But anyway, since the selfies are so popular, it is no wonder now that more and more smartphone makers are making the good selfie clicking abilities as the highlight of their smartphones. There are smartphones that help users to click better selfies from even their rear cameras, some have the secondary camera with the same configuration as the primary camera, some have arrangements to click better selfies even in low light, some ensure users are able to capture a wide-angle in their selfies or groupies.

ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser: Specifications and Price

In a recently held grand event called ZenFestival, ASUS too launched several new smart devices with a major focus on their camera. These include a couple of tablet devices and new smartphones like ZenFone 2 Deluxe, ZenFone Selfie and ZenFone 2 Laser. I've already told you about ZenFone 2 Deluxe and ZenFone Selfie. Let's take a look at ZenFone 2 Laser now.

As you can already guess, the highlight of ZenFone 2 Laser is its camera. But I think, the set of specifications that its various versions provide for less than ten thousand rupees is also its major attraction.

ZenFone 2 Laser is equipped with 5MP front and 13MP rear PixelMaster cameras with an f/2.0 wide-aperture lens capable of capturing high-resolution photos with zero shutter lag. The camera performance is enhanced by the laser auto-focus technology that enables the users to capture photos with better clarity in just 0.3 seconds. The smartphone is available in three screen sizes. These are 5-inch (ZE500KL), 5.5-inch (ZE550KL) and 6.0-inch (ZE601KL). These versions have 'up to' 1920 x 1080-pixel Full HD resolution, The display of ZenFone 2 Laser is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which can protect the phone from accidental falls in case the user gets too absorbed in clicking the selfie. As for performance, ZenFone 2 Laser has 'up to' octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processor with 'up to' 3GB RAM.

I hope you have noticed that I have put the word 'up to' in quotes in the above passage. That is to indicate that different versions of ZenFone 2 Laser have different screen sizes, screen resolution and processing power, RAM internal storage, and of course prices. But even the lowest set of specs in these phones is very decent.

With its specifications and camera features, ZenFone 2 Laser can easily boast to be a good camera phone.

But what makes a smartphone a good camera phone too? Well, here are some points that I think are essential in a good cameraphone:

  1. It should have screen to body ratio that gives you maximum viewing space and minimum distraction from the frame surrounding the screen. In this case, the less is more. That is, the lesser the width of the frame, the better the viewing experience of your photos and videos.
  2. Every good camera phone needs to be swift in terms of shutter speed and clicking of photos.
  3. It is imperative for camera phones to be capable of clicking good pictures in low light or night-time.
  4. As much fun as it is to click selfies, editing those selfies to enhance them is even more fun. So good camera phones should also have good photo editing features.
  5. When people are focused on clicking a good selfie, they can become a little careless of their phone (some even become careless of their own safety! More and more cases are being reported where people suffered grave injuries or even lost their life because they focused too intently on taking selfies. So be careful!) Anyway, the point is that the phone also has to be durable so it can survive minor accident and falls.

Coming back to ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser, it has big display, quick camera with zero shutter lag capability and Laser auto-focus. Its PixelMaster camera helps in clicking better photos in low light or at night. The ASUS Splendid feature in it also allows to adjust the colour tone of the images captured. And its sturdy built and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 adds to its durability. It also has the Rear Key design. That is, the volume rocker and the camera key are at its back. That also adds to the convenience of clicking selfies.

The device also won IF design award 2015 (Germany).
