Scientists have spent years trying to find out one question, we all look for answers – are we the only one in this universe? Well, now it looks like we have neighbors that we don’t know until now.
According to reports, Trojan asteroids that orbit the sun along the same road as the earth has been found.
The 1 meter telescope soared (southern astrophysics research) in Cerro Pachon in Chile made the discovery of asteroids almost one kilometer moving around the sun with the earth.
This confirms the existence of trojan asteroids such as the second most found in belts between Mars and Jupiter.
Toni Santana-ROS from Alicante University and the Barcelona University Cosmos Institute observed Asteroid 2020 XL5 which was the largest found.
The present invention was reported in a paper published in the journal Nature Communication. According to astronomers, several planets in the solar system are known to have trojan asteroids. However, 2020 XL5 is only the second trojan asteroid known to orbit near our planet.
“Trojans are objects that share orbits with a planet, crowding around one of two specialized gravity areas along the planetary orbit known as Lagrange Points,” Cesar Briceño from NSF’s Noulab, which is one of the major writers of the paper.
Astronomers first observed this Trojan asteroid using a Pan-Starrs1 survey telescope in Hawai’i and found that 2020 XL5 was much larger than the first earth trojan found, called 2010 TK7.
