Rachel Ray, the Emmy Award winning television show star, chef extraordinaire, and dog lover, is teaming up with the ASPCA to challenge 50 pet shelters nation-wide to find parents for as many of their pets as possible in the next 3 months.  The winning shelter gets $100,000 and the runners up will share another $50,000 in funds and prizes.

All 50 shelters will be hosting events this week, weekend, and beyond to encourage adoption in their communities. This weekend, August 3 - 5, shelters will have kick-off events to get people psyched up for the 3-month challenge. The shelters involved in the Challenge event are listed on the ASPCA website.

During this period, the ASPCA is asking everyone to adopt a pet, encourage others to adopt, and/or attend shelter events, Share on Facebook, Tweet on Twitter, and show support any way you can.

Did you know that you can see photos of the dogs and cats available for adoption at your local ASPCA-affiliated shelter right on the national ASPCA site? You can! Check this out!
