I was asked a few weeks ago by Tiffany better known as “Mrs. Tee” at MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter.  I have never participated in #ASKAWAYFriday and thought it would be a great way for my readers to get to know me better.  For those who don’t know what #ASKAWAYFriday is, you exchange a set of 10 questions for another blogger to answer.  Below are 10 questions that Mrs. Tee asked me and I hope that you enjoy my answers.

Mrs Tee AskAwayFriday

I have been a follower of Mrs. Tee’s blog for a few months now and find her posts inspiring.  She married to her best friend and is a mother of 4 children and 2 stepsons.  On her blog she shares posts about her journey as a follower, wife, mom, and friend.

Here are the questions that Mrs Tee asked me to answer:

  1. How did you come up with the idea and framework for your Blog?

I started with a breast pump review site and wanted to expand my niche because there was only so many breastfeeding topics to talk about.  After several days of brainstorming and writing down a huge list of domain names, we finally decided on Uplifting Families.  My husband created my logo for my site.  While, I started importing my content from my old domain name and found a WordPress theme for my site.

  1. Do you ever have days where you feel overwhelmed?  How do you handle them?

When I get overwhelmed, I often have to take a step back from the situation and remember that this is just a phase in my life and that it won’t last forever.  I deal with chronic pain and some days are harder than others.  On the bad days it is sometimes a struggle to take care of my children but I do the best that I can and rely on God to get me through the day.  If I feel as if I am struggling I will often turn on Pandora or the radio, so that I can listen to positive, uplifting Christian music.  I also started my blog to help take the focus off myself and to help other parents with real life situations.

  1. Does your husband know about and/or help you with Uplifting Families?

My husband actually got me interested in blogging.  He started blogging before we met and has several blogs of his own.   He helped me brainstorm and come up with the name of this blog.  I have always been a computer geek and love having a website even thought I wasn’t the best writer in the world.  My husband has helped me with some of the technical issues especially database issues that I couldn’t figure out on my own.   I wish he had more time to write and share parenting from a dad’s perspective.

  1. I know that your daughter has a cochlear implant.  What advice would you give to another Mother of a child with special needs?

To accept and love your child for who they are and don’t try to change them.  It was difficult when I found out that my daughter wasn’t perfect a few days after she was born.   I was devastated but I realizes that God made her special in her own way.  I am amazed at the technology that is available and that she blessed to have the opportunity to hear.  She has two cochlear implants and I have shared her story on my blog to help other parents who are faced with the same decision that I had to make for my daughter.  She amazes me each and every day.  She is a bright young lady who enjoys spending time with her friends, learning ASL, and participates in the Marching Band at school.

  1. Describe your perfect ‘Date Night’.

I love going on a romantic getaways with my husband.  It doesn’t happen as often as I would like.  As a mom, I know it is very important to go out on dates with your spouse after you have children.  It helps keep the romance alive and it helps remind you  remember why you fell in love in the first place.

  1. What is the best advice you have ever received about parenting?

I think the best advice that I was given when I had my daughter was to always do what I felt was best for my child.  I am a fairly laid back mom for the most part but I always trust my instincts when it comes to caring for my children.   Your instincts were given to you for a reason and you should trust yourself when it comes to raising your child.  After all you know your child better than anyone else, so if you think something isn’t right then seek help or medical treatment.

  1. What is the best advice you would give to a new parent?

To enjoy every moment with your newborn, they will grow up very quickly.   I know it is hard sometimes when you feel like you are stuck in the moment but try to enjoy those sleepless nights, crying spells, colic, ect.  When you look back you will miss holding and cuddling with a tiny baby, I know that I do.  Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you are feeling overwhelmed.  A small break from your baby will actually make you a better parent because it will give you the opportunity to relax and regroup your thoughts.

  1. What is your family’s favorite activity to do together?

We love sitting down and watching movies together, playing a quick game of Uno or Skip Bo, going to church, and spending as much time with each other.

  1. What is your favorite ‘me time’ activity?

I used to enjoy going to play indoor soccer but a few years ago I had to give that up because of back problems.  I miss playing and exercising.  I don’t get to have very much alone time since I had my youngest son a few years ago but if I get the chance I enjoy going out shopping or getting my toe nails painted.

  1. My Signature Question:  Are you a member of Team Tea or the Coffee Crew?

I am actually more of a soda person but I am a fan of both tea and coffee.  I joined the coffee team a few years ago, when McDonalds came out with the Iced Coffee.  I am a fan of flavored coffee with lots of creamer.  Frappe’s are also one of my favorite drinks. :)
