AAF Co-host

This week I swapped with Anna and Frank from Our Blended Marriage. Anna and Frank met online and fell in love. They share a variety of posts including: tips on parenting, marriage and surviving in as a blended family. You can also find things such as organizing, blogging, and productivity tips.

Askawayfriday with Anna and Frank Our Blended Marriage

  1. You and I both have what the experts call a “blended” family. Does that term bother you or do you feel indifferent towards it?

It doesn’t really bother me but my kids call my husband “dad”. Their biological father hasn’t seen them in a very long time and he hasn’t taken the initiative to be active in their lives. His loss not theirs because they are awesome kids.

  1. My biggest pet peeve when it comes to blended families is how some step parents differentiate between yours/mine/ours. What’s your biggest pet peeve when it comes to that?

I agree with you. It drives me crazy when I see couples fighting over money or stuff. I am old fashioned and feel that you should work together as a team and in the end it is just money or stuff, you can’t take it with you when you die.

  1. What’s your #1 advice for other step parents?

Work as a team and don’t let anything get in between your relationship (ie custody issues, money issues)

  1. One of the biggest issues for me is when the ex doesn’t want to co-operate. How would or how do you handle that?

Unfortunately, I don’t talk to my ex very much because he doesn’t want me to call him about the kids or issues with the kids. It is annoying. I wish that he had a relationship with the kids but I can’t force him so I let things be. After all, he is only hurting himself. The kids are happy and I wouldn’t have it any other way at this point.

  1. How did you prepare your children for your new marriage?

My kids were excited when I told them that I was getting married. I included them in the wedding and the immediately asked my husband if they could call him dad. He said, “yes”.
