What is #AskAwayFriday? Well…#AskAwayFriday was created by the amazing Penny from Real Housewife of Caroline County who will again be joining us from time to time, as a way to connect with other bloggers with a great Q & A session of 10 questions and 10 answers, between two bloggers! This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know others while allowing others to get to know you and of course there is also the added bonus of making great friends along the way which is one of the best parts of this online world!
Now welcoming our wonderful #AskAwayFriday hosts…
This week I paired up with Echo From Domain of the Mad Mommy. Echo is married and has two beautiful children. If you have visited her blog yet, you should hop over and check it out. She has a ton of great information on parenting, fun preschool activities, recipes, and humor.
- What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
I love celebrating the birth of Jesus, after all, he is the real reason why we celebrate Christmas. It became a fun holiday but over the last several years it has become very materialistic. I sometimes wonder what Jesus think about how we celebrate Christmas today. Don’t get me wrong, I love the magical elements of Christmas morning and surprising the kids.
- What is your favorite Christmas activity?
I enjoy going to church on Christmas eve. We normally end up at the 11:00 service even though it is late. I also enjoy spending extra time with the family.
This year I am hoping to take my kids to Holiday in the Park. They haven’t had this in our area in previous years. Santa is supposed to show up and they are going to have a snow hill for the kids to slide down. It sounds like a blast.
- What is your favorite Christmas song?
This usually varies from year to year. My favorite Christmas song this year is: You’re Here by Francesca Battistelli
- What is your favorite Christmas cookie?
I love sugar cookies topped with a bunch of icing or chocolate chip cookies. I would love to find a good sugar cookie recipe that you can use for cutout cookies. My mom’s old recipe wasn’t very good last time that I made them.
- What is your favorite Christmas memory?
I always remember Santa coming to visit my house when I was younger. He would come through the front door and you could hear the bells before he even came through the front door. Usually, my brother and I would come running into the living room from our bedrooms so that we could greet the man in the red suit. Santa even had a bag a wrapped gifts and candy canes for us too. This was a tradition that my parents came up with for several years and it is a memory that is forever etched into my memory. I was impressed with this tradition that I later asked my mom about it when I was older. She said that had the opportunity to hire Santa (a college kid from Texas Tech). Of course, times have changed and this probably doesn’t happen any longer.
I also remember we used to go to this store in Lubbock, called Holland Gardens. We would walk around looking at all of the cool Christmas decorations. This store was filled to the brim with cool trees, lights, tinsel, and ornaments. It always smelled like cinnamon sticks.
- What is your favorite Christmas ornament?
I don’t have my tree up yet but one of my favorite ornaments is the Angel that sits on the top. I found her on clearance one year.
- What is your favorite thing to have for Christmas dinner?
I usually end up cooking beef enchiladas when we have Christmas at our house. We usually do that the weekend before Christmas just depending on what my other siblings are doing. On Christmas eve, we usually spend time at my inlaws and Christmas day we go to our extended family.
- What is your favorite Christmas tradition?
I started doing the Elf on the Shelf two years ago. He is fun but I usually run out of ideas before Christmas is here.
- What is your favorite Christmas movie?
I love all of the Home Alone series.
- What is your favorite way to spend Christmas?
I love spending time with my family.
