If you've been reading Hello Freckles for a while, you'll know I'm fond of an afternoon tea outing, so this visit to Fusion, within Ramside Spa, Durham, was particularly exciting.Welcomed in, we were shown to a table with a lovely view across into the spa area. Jonathan who assisted us throughout our visit, brought over menus for us to look at. This was my boyfriend's first introduction to afternoon tea - so why not make it one with a bit of a twist! We selected our tea - English Breakfast for him and Spa Revival for me (a slightly fruity twist on your regular tea - which I happily drank without milk) which was basically a spa day, in a cup.
Our first course was served quickly and Jonathan explained what everything was from dim sum to the bang bang chicken wrap and the three accompanying dips. Everything was perfectly presented and tasted great - even the duck wrap (and I'm not typically a duck fan, but I'll give anything a go before I write it off) with some hoisin sauce; delicious.
Next up; the cakes. By this point we were both pretty full but I can always find room for dessert. The coconut and cherry scones were crisp on the outside and soft and still warm on the inside and the coconut and mango créme brulée was incredible. I could've happily eaten a bigger serving.
Afternoon tea is served daily in Fusion and can be enjoyed with tea, coffee or soft drinks - or even champagne if you're wanting to add a glass of fizz. The Asian afternoon tea is a great way to try a few of the standard menu offerings - like the dim sum and bang bang chicken wrap. It's also a great way to introduce someone to Thai inspired food.
Would you try Asian inspired afternoon tea or stick to the classics?
