Story: Ashes in the Snow starts when Lina (Powley) is taken with the rest of her village away to one of Stalin’s labor camps, where she must learn to survive in this world, with her love or drawing being the thing that is keeping her strong.
As Lina battles to survive, she will see her friends and family not make it, while the guards are just as brutal, as she hopes to get back to one of her childhood sweethearts.
Thoughts on Ashes in the Snow
Thoughts – Ashes in the Snow is a drama about the tragic story about one group of many that got moved and abandoned into Siberia under Stalin. Much like many of these movies, it is highlighting just how horrific the behavior towards innocent people. While the story isn’t any less important than any other film we have seen before, but isn’t on the higher levels that we have seen from others in the past. The performances are solid throughout the film, without anyone holding back the cast. Ashes in the Snow is everything we have seen before, despite having the important story to tell.
Final Thoughts – Ashes in the Snow is like every other tragic war story we have seen.
