Police have arrested 10 suspects in connection with the arson attack on the properties of former Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella and Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

Six persons have been arrested by the Kandy Police in connection with setting fire to Keheliya Rambukwella’s house in Aniwatta, Kandy at around 10 p.m. on May 9.

“All the suspects are residents of the Kandy City Limits,” Police said.

The Mahindananda Foundation Office, an institution owned by MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage at Ambagamuwa Road in Nawalapitiya was pelted with stones and damaged on the afternoon of May 9.

Four persons have been arrested by the Nawalapitiya Police following a complaint lodged with the Police by a Private Secretary of Mahindananda Aluthgamage that two laptops and a generator had been stolen from the building after the attack.

When the four suspects were produced before the Nawalapitiya Magistrate’s Court on a B report, the Magistrate released them on personal bail of Rs.100,000 each and ordered them to appear in Court again on May 27.

Former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s Private Secretary had lodged a complaint with the Nawalapitiya Police against 16 suspects alleging that the Mahindananda Foundation Office had been attacked and damaged.

Nawalapitiya Police have filed charges against the suspects on charges of misconduct, mischief and theft.
