Arson Attack on PM’s Residence: CID to Probe Political Parties, Groups

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in their investigation into the arson attack on the private residence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has paid special attention to the people belonging to various political parties and groups who were present at the location at the time of the incident.

CID Director, Senior Superintendent of Police Kavinda Piyasekera is leading the investigations. Five Police teams are investigating the arson attack under the supervision of Piyasekera. There are more than 50 officers in those 05 groups.

The officers have recorded statements from the people who witnessed the arson attack (11) and from the Prime Minister’s security personnel as well as from the neighbours of the Prime Minister.

Information from the Criminal Investigation Department stated that the number of statements obtained in this way is more than 30.

In order to identify the persons involved in the incident, security camera footage, unedited footage recorded by the media while reporting the incident, as well as the mobile phone videos recorded by people who were inside and outside the house at the time of the incident are being perused. A senior officer of the Criminal Investigation Department said that the leaked videos and photos over social media will also be investigated.

The official expressed confidence that clear information will emerge in the next few days as a lengthy investigation is currently underway regarding the arson attack on the Prime Minister’s house.
