Get ready for Arrow to go back to its roots in season 7

‘Arrow’ Season 7 Promises To Be Grittier and Push BoundariesArrow has all the dark elements of a Netflix show, but being a series on The CW network, it’s limited to the type of graphic content it can display.

Enter Beth Schwartz, season 7’s new showrunner, and James Bamford, the director of the new season’s premiere. Both are looking to bring the series back to its early roots, while carving a whole new future.

In an interview with Newsarama, Bamford talked about the new direction of the upcoming season.

“In the premiere you will find some elements with the Season 1 feel, but you will find other elements that is new, uncharted territory,” the director and stunt coordinator said. “Beth and I had a phone call with BNSP, which is our censors… a very lengthy phone call about a particular scene that we never had before,” Bamford continued. “So we are really trying to push the limits on the show in the gritty factor. We are trying to go as far as you can go within the confines of our network and what is expected of us and what we can and can’t do. We are not on Netflix so we will never be able to X, Y, and Z, but we are damn sure going to try.”

Season 6 ended with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) going to prison for his work as the Green Arrow. With his identity now uncovered and new enemies threatening to put him six feet under, Oliver faces a battle he’s never seen before. It’s not your typical Arrow subject matter, and no doubt will be grittier and harder than ever before, which is probably why Schwartz and Bamford are looking to push the envelope as to what the series can and can’t do going forward.

Tell us how you feel about this new direction Arrow is taking in the comments below and make sure to tune in Monday, October 15 on The CW for the premiere of the new season.
