Colombo Magistrate court today (13 March) has issued an arrest warrant against the former minister, current MP Wimal Weerawansa, the leader of the National Freedom Party (NFF).
Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis has issued this order for failure to appear before court for a case filed in 2016 by the Cinnamon Garden Police. The case was filed against the MP and a few others for causing public disturbance by blocking the traffic around the United Nations (UN) Compound at Thummulla, by carrying out a protest against the arrival of the then-UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Al Hussein visited Sri Lanka.
