At the end of Season 4, we saw the appearance of, Patrick Devins, Terry’s buddy from the army who showed up in Merlotte’s for a visit. The casting call from last season described hsi character as:
[Patrick Devins] 35 to 45, tough, and ruggedly attractive, he served in the military with Terry, and they share a serious history: Terry saved Patrick’s life twice. 7 out of 13 episodes next season.
The character is played by Scott Foley and is expected to bring nothing but trouble for Terry and Arlene in Season 5. We think he will provide the means by which we learn about Terry’s army history. As war veteran Patrick Devans, Foley promises to throw more than a few curve balls at the “True Blood” cast… especially the happily married Terry Bellefleur and Arlene Fowler, both of whom are about to get caught up in Devans’ dangerous baggage.
“The jury is out on Scott Foley’s character,” Carrie Preston, who plays Arlene, told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival. “They set it up to be something that’s a little dangerous by the end of season four, and I’m telling you right now, it’s not going to get any better.“
But even if Scott presents a threat to Arlene’s happy marriage, Carrie insists that the Merlotte’s waitress isn’t going to stand aside and let her family fall apart.
“Arlene wants to hold onto her man and her family and that’s always going to be her MO,” she said. “Anything that comes into her situation and is threatening, she’s not going to take that lying down.”
