Universal Pictures unveiled an exciting glimpse into “Wicked” at CinemaCon last year, generating buzz as the release date draws near. At this year’s convention of theater owners, the star-studded cast, including Jon M. Chu and the leading actresses, took to the stage once again.

In the highly-anticipated adaptation, Ariana Grande portrays Glinda, the Good Witch, while Cynthia Erivo embodies Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. Anticipation is high, with many touting “Wicked” as a potential holiday blockbuster.

The presentation was an emotional rollercoaster for the film’s team. Director Chu became visibly moved as he reminisced about their collective journey. Ariana Grande was also moved to tears discussing her involvement in the project.

Reflecting on the experience, Grande expressed, “This whole experience is absolutely impossible to put into words.”

Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt treated attendees to an exclusive new trailer for the film. Notably, “Wicked” is split into two parts, adapting the beloved stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman.

The story follows Elphaba’s arrival at Shiz University, where she forms a bond with Glinda. The leading actresses appeared in attire reminiscent of their characters, with Grande dazzling in a pink and white floral mini dress, and Erivo donning a green top paired with a metallic mini-skirt.

Addressing the audience amidst mounting excitement, Grande shared, “We both felt such a tremendous responsibility to honor these women and to pour our hearts, our souls, our tears—so many different pairs of lashes.” Erivo expressed her gratitude for the journey they’ve embarked on together, stating, “I’m really grateful for this journey that we’ve taken together.”

“Wicked” is slated for release on November 27, 2024, with its second installment following on November 26, 2025.
