Are You Just 3 Seconds Away From Creative Success?

How good do you reckon your creative thinking skills to be? Good? Fair? Non-existent? Maybe you reckon you’re pretty positive when it comes to tackling something new and my favorite question, when faced with a particular problem to solve is:

“How difficult can it be?”

Of course, it’s almost inevitable that you then proceed to find out exactly how difficult any given task is!

The important thing is though, when discovering whether something is or isn’t tough to accomplish, to actually give it a go.

And the amazing thing is, most times you probably successfully manage to do what originally seemed beyond your capabilities – or at least, beyond your experience and expertise.

But sadly most people fail before they even start – they tell themselves that they can’t do something as soon as an idea or possible solution pops into their head.

And that’s where a vital 3 seconds come into play. That tiny fraction of time can make the difference between creative success – or total failure.

The truth is, if you tell yourself that you can’t see an answer to a problem facing you, then that will be the reality of the situation – you’ll have been defeated before you even try to find a way around this particular problem.

You will be the reason for your failure – not your ability or any insurmountable obstacle standing in your way!

And the really frustrating thing is that you could have changed the entire scenario in 3 seconds flat and exercised your intuitive, creative thinking skills to full effect.

How?

By changing your ‘Can’t Do’ reaction to ‘Can-Do-But-Just-Haven’t-a-Clue-How-To-Go-About-It-Yet’!

It really is that simple.

Scientists, therapists and even parents of young children have for many years been fully aware of the power of a person’s thoughts to impose limits on their beliefs and behavior.

How many times a day do parents around the world tell their reluctant offspring that they can achieve anything if they try?

Unfortunately, we grow into adults who fall prey to our negative and limiting beliefs concerning our abilities, not realising that the power of our limiting self-talk can be equaled and surpassed by consciously altering the thoughts flooding into our minds.

Of course, swapping your approach from the negative to the positive is only the start of the creative thinking process – you need to follow it up with some unfettered brainstorming, daydreaming or subconscious filtering before you can come up with a course of action but your creative thinking skills will at least have been engaged and put to work.

You’ll find yourself naturally coming up with any number of inspired ideas that will go towards solving any problem facing you.

So don’t ever tell yourself you can’t do something – take 3 seconds to change your attitude around and simply ask:

“How difficult can it be?”

Then put your creative thinking skills to work and find out how easy it might be instead.
