From the Hollywood Olympus to the original one in Greece: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have officially become Greek citizens. The announcement was made only by the country's prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who announced on Instagram that the couple were granted honorary citizenship.
The reason for the naturalization of the two actors is to be found in the time that the two actors have spent in Greece, destination for years of their holidays, in the Hellenic descent (discovered in 2012) of Rita Wilson but above all in the great love that the Hanks have always shown for the country.
In 2018, in fact, the couple of actors had helped lead an important fundraiser to support the victims of the serious fire that hit Athens. In fact, Greek legislation provides that honorary citizenship is granted to those who have provided exceptional service for the country or those whose naturalization supports the public interest.
The naturalization process of the Hanks had already started in December, at the hands of President Prokopis Pavlopoulos so much that already in January, Tom Hanks had wished a happy new year to all as a new Greek citizen. A nice surprise after the difficult period of isolation due to the covid-19 which saw the couple being one of the first to face the virus.
