On Monday, Apple Inc (AAPL.O) revealed a new product called the Vision Pro, an augmented-reality headset. This is a big move for Apple, as it is their riskiest and largest investment since the iPhone was introduced. The announcement came during Meta’s metaverse event.
The starting price of Vision Pro is $3,499, which is over three times the cost of the most expensive headset in Meta’s line of mixed and virtual reality devices. These devices are currently the most popular in the AR/VR market.
The headset from Apple is set to release in the U.S. in the beginning of next year, and other countries will follow in 2024.
Apple revealed many new products and features, such as a 15-inch MacBook Air, a strong chip named M2 Ultra, and enhancements to its iOS software and autocorrect function.
Apple didn’t make any big announcements regarding generative AI products like ChatGPT or Google’s Bard search engine. However, it did add AI to some smaller features, such as live transcriptions of voice mails.
According to Apple, Vision Pro users can choose content within the goggles using their eyes, click by tapping their fingers together, and scroll by gently flicking. Additionally, the device has a 3D camera and microphone system that can record videos and pictures for later 3D viewing.
