This story is part of Apple event, our full coverage of the latest news from Apple headquarters.

The Apple Store went offline on Tuesday, just hours before the company's iPhone 12 launch event. The event usually takes place in September and has been postponed until October this year to accommodate delays in the launch of the new phone COVID-19. But the wait for the event should be worth it. We expect Apple to launch its first 5G iPhone, as well as a new HomePod and more.

The disappearance of the Apple Store is nothing out of the ordinary. Apple typically pulls its online store down before major events, especially when new products are to be announced. After the event, the store is likely to reappear, hopefully offering the option to pre-order the company's latest equipment.

This year, those devices should include the iPhone 12, the next generation of Apple's iconic smartphone, which for the first time should come with built-in 5G wireless technology, as well as a new chip and fresh look inspired by the iPad Pro. Other things we'd like to see at this year's event are new headphones, a new HomePod, and possibly an iPhone Mini. It is possible that Apple's long-rumored AirTag beacons will appear.

Here at CNET, we'll be up to date on all of the big announcements that come out of today's iPhone 12 event. So keep an eye on the website for all the Apple news, first impressions, and analysis you could want.
