According to a Friday report from TechCrunch, iPhone manufacturer Foxconn has started assembling iPhone 11 devices at its plant near Chennai, India. Some locally manufactured units have already been delivered to Apple stores, but production yields are limited, a person familiar with the matter told TechCrunch.
Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

The move is reportedly in line with Apple's goal of increasing production in India. Most iPhone models are currently made in China. By installing devices in India, smartphone vendors like Apple can avoid the Indian government's import duty of around 20% on imported electronics, TechCrunch said.
At the company's annual general meeting earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the iPhone maker would opens its first retail store in India next year.
