Apple's chief security officer has been charged with bribery for allegedly offering to donate hundreds of iPads to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office in order to obtain covert gun permits for Apple employees.
Thomas Moyer, Apple's head of global security, was indicted last week as part of a two-year investigation into the sheriff's office, the Santa Clara District Attorney said on Monday. Moyer allegedly agreed to donate 200 iPads worth $ 70,000 to the Sheriff's Office in order to obtain four permits that were withheld from Apple employees, prosecutors said in a statement.

The deal was finalized in August 2019 when Sheriff's Department officials involved in the program learned of the district attorney's investigation into the department's hidden transportation licenses, the DA office said
Santa Clara NCO Rick Sung and Captain James Jensen, who allegedly asked for bribery, were also charged, the DA office said.
Apple is headquartered in Santa Clara County, the heart of Silicon Valley.
Security has become a key issue for tech companies in recent years as they have attracted more public attention alongside the threat of violence. In 2018, a suspected shooter opened fire on employees at YouTube headquarters in nearby San Bruno, wounding three workers before killing herself.
Earlier this year it was Apple issued an injunction Against a man from San Francisco who allegedly turned up a bottle of champagne and flowers at Tim Cook's, he entered the property of the Apple CEO without permission and made threatening statements.
Neither Apple nor Moyer did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
